Medical school admission is often a matter of having information other people do not have because they never bothered to find out and were never told. Similar to being a proficient physician, medical school admission requires several skills. Students in Premedical degree programs commonly make the mistake of focusing to heavily on the academic aspect of medical school admission such as earning the best grades possible and getting a high score on the MCAT exam. But medical school admission requires much more than a strong academic record and high MCAT scores. Unfortunately every year there are applicants who have stellar academic records but don't gain medical school admission because they failed to learn about the entire process of medical school admission. There's more to it than great academic achievements.
In the United States, people who are licensed to practice medicine have either obtained an M.D. degree from an allopathic medical school or have a D. O. degree from an osteopathic medical school. Around 95% Of the licensed physicians are M.D.'s, and the most medical schools are allopathic medical schools. By and large, Al opacity medical schools are more difficult to get into, M.D. degrees are considered more prestigious, and M.D.'s are more likely to be higher in medical field "pecking order." Osteopathic medicine is often described as being more "holistic" and D.O.'s the are most commonly found as primary care physicians.
